Scholarship Information

Use this form (or something similar) to give to people you are asking to write letters of recommendation for you.
If you want someone to write a great letter for you -- you need to put time into giving them accurate information to work with!
When you are finished, print the information and give it to the people writing letters for you.
 
Starting with the high school Class of 2023, students will be eligible for financial aid from the State in the form of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship: 
  • Up to $2,750 if they attend a community college, per year (for up to three years)
  • Up to $5,500 if they attend a public university, per year (for up to five years)
  • Up to $4,000 if they attend a private college or university, per year (for up to five years)
 
Students will be eligible if their family demonstrates financial need when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). *Financial need is defined as an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less.
Eligibility: Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify. The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide recipients with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. The American Legion, Department of Michigan is offering 20 scholarships to be awarded in the spring of 2023. There will be five William D. and Jewell Brewer Scholarships ($500 each) and 15 Guy M. Wilson Scholarships ($500 each).

Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. Eligibility requirements are outlined on the website: https://www.elks.org/scholars/scholarships/legacy.cfm

The 2023 contest and application closes on February 6, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria: Dependent of an MEA member; graduate of a Michigan high school that has an MEA bargaining unit; will attend a degree-granting institution.
Selection Criteria: Priority is given on the basis of: academic achievement; extra-curricular activities; school and community service
Application: available through the provided link. The application can be typed into, saved, and then printed for signature. 
Deadline: Applications must be RECEIVED BY Thursday, February 16, 2023. These may be emailed or mailed using the USPS. 

On October 11, 2022, Senate Bill 842 established the Michigan Achievement Scholarship

Up to $5,000 towards school expenses, lodging, supplies, tools, etc. for a graduating high school senior who is looking to start a career in the construction trades. For example: • Plumbing Heating HVAC; • Carpentry; • Electrical - Electrician/Lineman; • Masonry; • Heavy Equipment Operating; • Welding. There is no GPA requirement.  
Cheboygan County Farm Bureau is offering two $500 Stanley Sloan Scholarships. Special preference is given to Farm Bureau members and students going into an agricultural related program, when applicable.  You do not have to be a Farm Bureau member or going into an Agriculture-related field to apply -- ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.
 Applications must be received by April 15, 2023. 
The winner and their school will be notified as soon as one is chosen.
